Hello! I am Jill Heemstra. I grew up in southeast South Dakota. I graduated from South Dakota State (Go Jackrabbits), transplanted to Nebraska and currently work for the University of Nebraska (Go Cornhuskers). My husband and I live on a farm with 12[hundred] trees, 11 hens a laying, 10 bulls for sale, nine great neighbors, eight cats napping , seven owls screeching, six apple trees, five miles to town, four roosters crowing, three boys growing, too many cows, and……a dog sleeping by a pear tree.
This blog is my tribute to the people producing the food, fuel, and fiber we depend on. My life as a farm daughter, wife, and mother has given me so many laughs, I just had to share them with someone else. While I focus on the lighter side of farm or ranch life, I hope you also can see the blood, sweat, and tears that go into this profession.
These stories are true, but I do admit that my faulty memory has probably misplaced a detail or two…..from time to time….once in a while….but not on purpose.
Please share your stories and remembrances too. I enjoy reading and hearing other stories about farm and ranch life!
