On our first night in Alaska, we drove along Glacier Highway and were treated to this spectacular sunset behind the mountains on the other side of the Gastineau Channel. The locals told us that they had only a handful of clear, sunny days all summer, so we felt fortunate that we got to see this.
This picture shows my cousin and some of his friends setting up their hot air balloons. This photo was taken on the day of his mother’s (my aunt’s) funeral. It was very peaceful watching the balloons float into the air. I can only imagine the conversation he was having with his Mom during his flight.
My sons and I visited Washington, D.C. recently. We were lucky enough to visit the Vietnam War Memorial right at sunset and during a time when there were few people at the memorial. We saw this unique old barn on a day trip to a state park in our area. It was a beautiful, sunny day–perfect for taking pictures. My oldest son actually took much better pictures of this barn than I did. He won a champion ribbon at our county fair with his.
I was trying to get the attention of these kitties for a picture because I thought the snow and black cats would make a nice combination. Instead of getting them both to look, I got them looking at each other with the same pose–almost like they were looking at a mirror image.
This picture was taken in July, 2009 while I was standing in the doorway of our house. I love watching storms and clouds but maintain a healthy respect for the power of Mother Nature.
